Cucumber Apple Ring - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. large cucumbers
    2 c. lime
    3 c. vinegar, divided
    10 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. alum (powdered)
    1 1/2 pkg. (9 1/2 oz.) cinnamon red hots candy
    8 cinnamon sticks
Preparation
    Peel cucumbers; remove seeds and slice 1/4-inch thick.
    Place slices in a crock or enamel canner.
    Mix lime with 8 1/2 quarts of water.
    Pour over slices in crock.
    Let stand 24 hours.
    Pour off lime water and rinse real good.
    Soak slices in ice water for 3 hours.
    Drain.
