Apple Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. water
    1 c. sugar
    1/8 tsp. cinnamon
    1/8 tsp. nutmeg
    2 drops red food coloring
    2 Tbsp. butter
    6 apples, peeled and sliced
    2/3 c. shortening
    2 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. milk
Preparation
    Place water, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and food coloring in a pot.
    Cook until boiling; add butter.
    Peel and slice 6 apples. Mix flour, baking powder and salt.
    Cut in shortening.
    Add milk. Roll out onto lightly floured board.
    Cut dough into 6 (6-inch) squares.
    Place apples on dough and sprinkle generously with cinnamon, sugar and nutmeg.
    Also place a dab of butter on them. Fold corners into center and pinch seams closed.
    Place in a baking dish.
    Pour the sugar syrup over dumplings and sprinkle generously with sugar.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 35 minutes.
