Date Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sifted flour
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
    1 egg
    1 1/3 c. milk
    1/4 c. shortening, melted
    1/2 c. nuts
    1 c. chopped dates
Preparation
    Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.
    Add brown sugar. Combine egg and milk; add milk mixture and shortening to flour. Mix enough to dampen flour.
    Fold in nuts and dates.
    Pour into 9 x 5 x 3-inch pan.
    Bake in moderate oven (350\u00b0) for 1 hour and 5 minutes.
    Cool.
