Eggnog - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    18 eggs, separated
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    9 c. half and half or half milk and half cream
    3/4 tsp. salt
    3 c. rum or half and half if you dislike rum
    3 tsp. vanilla
    nutmeg to taste
Preparation
    Separate eggs into large bowls.
    Whip egg whites with 1/2 of the sugar to firm peaks.
    Whip yolks with 1/2 sugar until thick and lemon colored.
    Add all other ingredients (except egg whites) to yolks; mix very well.
    (You can whip the cream, if you like.) Fold the whites into the mixture.
    Leave small \"chunks\" of the meringue intact.
