Grandma'S Lye Soap - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 cans Lewis lye
    8 gal. water (rain water or melted snow if possible)
    1 (1 lb.) box Borax
    16 lb. meat drippings (rendered from pork)
Preparation
    Place all in a large cast kettle and boil for 1 hour.
    Turn into shallow crocks; cool and the next day, cut into bars.
