Ingredients

3 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tsp. nutmeg
2 Tbsp. shortening
1 c. sour milk
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 eggs
3/4 c. sugar
shortening or cooking oil (for deep-fat frying)
Preparation

In a mixing bowl, stir together flour, soda, cream of tartar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
In a larger mixing bowl, beat eggs and sugar until thick and lemon colored.
Stir in melted shortening.
Add flour mixture and sour milk alternately to egg mixture; beat just until blended after each addition.
Cover; chill dough about 4 hours.
