Mom'S Old-Time Buttermilk Gingerbread - cooking recipe

1/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c. light molasses
1 3/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. buttermilk
Preparation

Cream shortening and sugar; add egg and molasses.
Mix well. Mix and sift flour, spices and salt.
Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk.
Add alternately with flour mixture to molasses mixture.
Pour into greased and floured 8-inch square cake pan. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 45 minutes or until tester comes out clean.
