Applesauce Fruit Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. raisins
    3/4 c. nuts (more, if desired)
    1 c. mixed candied fruits
    1/4 c. dates (more, if desired)
    2 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. cloves
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. allspice
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 tsp. soda
    1 1/2 c. applesauce, sweetened and drained
    2 eggs
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 tsp. lemon juice
    1 tsp. grated lemon rind
    2 tsp. cold coffee
Preparation
    Grease pan (angel food cake pan) well.
    Heat oven to 300\u00b0. Prepare fruit.
    Sift a portion of flour over fruit, mixing it in lightly.
    Sift remaining flour with soda and spices.
    Cream shortening well.
    Add sugar gradually, creaming well.
    When light and fluffy, stir in well beaten eggs.
    Add applesauce which has been drained quite dry.
    Add dry ingredients gradually, stirring in well.
    Add fruits and seasonings.
    Mix thoroughly.
    Turn into prepared pan and bake in slow oven about 1 1/2 hours.
    Cool. Store in cool, dry place with a piece of apple.
