Squash Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 c. squash
    2 c. chopped onions
    2 large peppers
    1/4 tsp. alum
    3 c. sugar
    2 c. vinegar
    2 tsp. celery seed
    2 tsp. mustard seed
    2 Tbsp. pickling spice, tied in a bag
Preparation
    Soak squash, onions and peppers in alum and ice water for 30 minutes.
    Drain, but do not rinse.
    Bring sugar, vinegar, celery seed, mustard seed and pickling spice to a boil.
    Add squash, onions and peppers and boil for 5 minutes.
    Put in clean canning jars and process in a hot water bath for 5 minutes.
