Peggy'S Layered Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce (you may want less)
    1 can water chestnuts, chopped
    3/4 cup chopped celery
    3/4 cup chopped green pepper
    1 pkg. frozen peas, cooked and drained
    1 1/2 cups mayonnaise
    2 Tbsp. sugar
Preparation
    Combine mayonnaise and sugar, set aside. Layer remaining ingredients in order given and top with mayonnaise mixture.
