Cocoa Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. soft shortening (use part butter)
    1 c. sugar
    1 egg *
    3/4 c. buttermilk or sour milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 1/2 c. sifted flour
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. cocoa
Preparation
    Mix well the shortening, sugar and egg.
    Stir in buttermilk and vanilla.
    Add dry ingredients.
    If desired, can add nuts. Spread in rectangular pan.
    Frost and cut into squares.
