Pickled Peaches - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. peaches
    3 or 4 cinnamon sticks
    whole cloves
    2 lb. sugar, preferably brown
    1 1/2 pt. vinegar
Preparation
    Make a syrup of sugar, vinegar and cinnamon, cooking them together for 20 minutes.
    Remove skins of peaches by dipping them for a moment in boiling water, then rubbing with a cloth.
    Stick 2 cloves in each peach and then cook in syrup until tender.
    Do not try to cook too many peaches at one time.
    Boil the syrup 10 minutes after all the fruit is done, then pour it over the peaches and seal.
