Cherry Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. flour
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/4 c. shortening
    1/2 c. milk
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. pitted cherries
Preparation
    Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and sugar.
    Add shortening, milk and vanilla.
    Beat vigorously.
    Put in greased 8-inch square, 9-inch square or 6 x 10-inch pan.
    Drain cherries. Put cherries over mixture in pan.
    Sprinkle with 1/2 cup sugar. Pour 1 cup hot water or hot cherry juice over all.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 40 minutes.
    Good served warm.
