Colorful White Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. shortening
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
    2 1/4 c. sifted cake flour
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    1 c. milk
    5 stiffly beaten egg whites
    food coloring
Preparation
    Cream the shortening and sugar until light.
    Add vanilla and mix well.
    Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
    Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating after each addition.
    Gently fold in whites.
    Put into 2 greased and lightly floured 9-inch round pans.
    Sprinkle with assorted food colors. Use a toothpick to swirl colors.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 18 to 20 minutes.
    Cool 10 minutes.
    Remove from pan.
    Cool completely. Use your favorite icing.
