Ingredients

3 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. butter
milk to mix
grated cheese (for savory)
1/2 c. dried fruit like raisins or apricots (for sweet)
2 Tbsp. sugar (for sweet)
4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
Preparation

Place flour, salt and baking powder in a bowl.
Add sugar if making sweet scones.
Rub (mix) butter into dry ingredients.
Add cheese for savory or fruit for sweet.
Slowly add milk, a little at a time, and mix with a knife to start.
Use clean hands to finish mixing.
Mixture should not crumble when picked up or be too sticky.
Roll on a floured board.
Cut into approximately 12 scones 1-inch high.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden. Serve hot or cold.
Butter and serve savory scones for lunch and sweet scones for morning or afternoon tea.
May also add chopped bacon or onion for savory scones.
