Grandma'S Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. thin sliced cucumbers
    6 medium white onions, sliced and separated into rings
    2 green peppers, chopped (not too small)
    3 cloves garlic (remove before filling jars)
    1/3 c. rock salt
    ice cubes
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. celery salt
    3 1/2 c. sugar
    3 1/2 tsp. mustard seed
    3 1/2 c. vinegar (distilled white)
Preparation
    Slice and measure cucumbers.
    Dump into large pan(s) (turkey roasting pan(s) work well).
    Add onions, peppers and whole garlic cloves. Add salt. Cover with ice.
    Mix thoroughly.
    Let stand 3 hours. Drain thoroughly. Combine remaining ingredients.
    Heat. Pour mixture over drained cucumber mix.
    Heat, mixing frequently (cover for quicker heating); do not boil.
    Ladle into sterile quart jars.
    Place in boiling water bath.
    Process for 6 minutes. Makes 7 to 8 quarts.
