Banana Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2/3 c. sugar
    1/3 c. cornstarch
    3 c. skim milk
    1/8 tsp. salt
    3 large eggs, separated
    2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    1 Tbsp. pure vanilla extract
    2 ripe firm bananas
    2 c. vanilla wafers
    2 Tbsp. sugar
Preparation
    Heat oven to 375\u00b0.
    In large saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, milk and (if desired) salt.
    Over medium low heat, cook and stir until thickened.
    Remove from heat.
    In small bowl, using whisk, lightly beat egg yolks.
    Add small amount of milk mixture to yolks.
    Blend well.
    Stir yolks into saucepan until blended.
    Cook 1 to 2 minutes.
    Stir in butter and vanilla.
    Allow custard to cool slightly.
    Meanwhile, cut bananas crosswise. Place slices on bottom of 2-quart baking dish.
    Arrange layers of vanilla wafers.
    Top with layer of custard, then bananas.
    Repeat layering twice.
    Top with meringue.
    Cook in oven until meringue browns.
    Let cool and serve.
