Ingredients

1 c. soft butter or oleo (1/2 lb.)
2 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
Preparation

Cream butter until it resembles whipped cream.
Add sugar slowly, beating well.
Add flour gradually, blending thoroughly. Wrap in waxed paper.
Chill several hours.
Knead dough slightly on lightly floured board; form into a smooth ball.
Roll to about 1/8-inch thick.
Cut into desired shapes.
Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake in moderate oven (350\u00b0) for approximately 12 minutes.
Remove from oven; let stand about 3 minutes before removing cookies to cooler rack.
When cold, decorate cookies as desired with butter icing, cake decorations or candied fruits.
