Ingredients

1/4 c. butter or oleo, melted
3 large onions, sliced (about 4 c.)
1 tsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. flour
2 1/2 c. water
1/2 c. red cooking wine
2 (10 1/2 oz.) cans condensed beef broth
1 long loaf French bread
1 (8 oz.) pkg. Swiss cheese slices
Preparation

Cook onions and sugar for 10 minutes.
Stir in flour until well blended.
Add water, wine and broth; heat to boiling.
Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
Cut 1-inch slices of bread. Toast in oven at 325\u00b0 until lightly browned.
Ladle soup into soup bowls with 1 slice of toasted bread on top of each.
Fold cheese to fit bowls.
Bake at 425\u00b0 for 10 minutes or until cheese melts.
