Grandma'S Ginger Creams - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1 c. molasses
    4 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    2 tsp. ginger
    1 tsp. cloves
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 c. hot water
    2 tsp. soda
Preparation
    Cream sugar and shortening, add egg; mix.
    Add molasses and mix well.
    Sift flour and add slowly, mixing in well.
    Add spices, salt and soda.
    Add water a little at a time; mix well.
    Chill dough.
    Drop by teaspoon and bake 8 to 12 minutes at 400\u00b0.
    Frost with a thin powdered sugar icing, if desired.
