Yuletide Toffee Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 1/2 c. oats (quick or old-fashioned, uncooked)
    1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    3/4 c. margarine or butter, melted
    1/2 c. corn syrup
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 tsp. salt (optional)
    2/3 c. chopped nuts (optional)
    1 (12 oz.) pkg. (2 c.) Toll House semi-sweet chocolate chips
Preparation
    Heat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Grease 15 x 10-inch pan.
    Combine oats, sugar, margarine, corn syrup, vanilla and salt.
    Mix well.
    Firmly press mixture into prepared pan.
    Bake 18 minutes or until mixture is brown and bubbly.
    Remove from oven.
    Immediately sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over toffee.
    Let stand 10 minutes; spread chocolate evenly over toffee.
    Sprinkle with nuts.
    Cool completely; cut into squares.
    Store tightly in cool, dry place. Makes approximately 6 dozen.
