Black Walnut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. butter, softened
    1/2 c. Crisco
    2 c. sugar
    5 eggs, separated
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. soda
    2 c. all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. chopped black walnuts
    1 (3 to 4 oz.) can coconut
    1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
Preparation
    Cream butter and Crisco.
    Gradually add sugar, beating well on medium speed of electric mixer.
    Add eggs yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    Combine buttermilk and soda. Stir until soda dissolves.
    Add flour to butter mixture alternately with buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with flour.
    Mix well after each addition.
    Stir in vanilla, walnuts and coconut, stirring well.
    Beat egg whites (at room temperature) with cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
    Fold gently into batter.
