Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 to 8 cucumbers (small size are better; less seeds), sliced thin
    2 to 3 onions, sliced very thin
    1/4 c. salt
    2 c. sugar
    1 1/4 c. vinegar
    1 c. water
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 tsp. celery seed
Preparation
    Mix salt with cucumbers and onions; let stand for 3 hours. Rinse well.
    Make syrup of all other ingredients.
    Pour over cucumbers and onions.
    Bring to a scald (do not overcook).
    Put in scalded jars and refrigerate.
