Rock Candy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 3/4 c. white sugar
    1 1/4 c. white corn syrup
    1 c. water
    dash of salt
    food coloring
    flavoring (oils, if possible)
    powdered sugar
Preparation
    Put first 4 ingredients into a 4-quart saucepan and stir to dissolve sugar.
    Bring to a boil on high.
    Put candy thermometer into mixture, reduce temperature to medium-high and cook until 300\u00b0 registers on the thermometer.
    Remove from heat; add flavoring and food color.
    Stir to distribute color.* Have prepared a jelly roll type pan (with sides).
    Pour onto powdered sugar that has been sifted over the bottom of pan.
    Allow to cool slightly and, with scissors, cut pieces into a bowl of powdered sugar.
    When cool, remove excess sugar from candy and store.
