Beer Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. brown sugar
    1 c. shortening
    2 eggs
    2 c. chopped dates
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1/2 tsp. allspice
    1/2 tsp. ground clove
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    3 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 c. beer or ale
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar.
    Stir in lightly beaten eggs, nuts, dates and spices.
    In a separate bowl, sift together flour, salt and soda; stir in beer (gently).
    Combine beer mixture with creamed mixture and stir until well blended.
    Bake in well-greased tube pan at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour.
