My Mother'S One-Two-Three-Four Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter or other shortening
    2 c. sugar
    4 eggs, separated
    3 c. sifted cake flour
    1/4 tsp. salt
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1 c. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Cream the shortening and sugar until fluffy.
    Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each one is added.
    Sift dry ingredients together 3 times and add alternately with milk and vanilla to creamed mixture, beating until smooth after each addition.
    Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
    Pour into pans lined with waxed paper and bake in a 350\u00b0 oven for 25 minutes. Makes 3 (9-inch) layers.
    Or bake in a tube-cake pan in a 325\u00b0 oven for 1 hour.
