Banana Layer Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. plain flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    3 eggs, separated
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 c. mashed ripe bananas
    1/4 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. soda
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Beat egg whites; add 2 tablespoons sugar from the 1 1/2 cups.
    Put in refrigerator.
    Sift flour mixture; cream sugar and shortening.
    Add egg yolks, one at a time, along with bananas.
    Add flour mixture and buttermilk-soda mixture alternately.
    Fold in egg whites.
    Bake in three layers for 20 to 30 minutes.
    Use buttercream icing with nuts (optional).
    Add candy sprinkles on top if desired.
