Victorian Walnut Cake(From The White House Cookbook, 1887) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. butter
    3 eggs
    2/3 c. milk
    3 c. flour, sifted with heaping tsp. baking powder
    1 Tbsp. mace
    a coffee cup chopped walnuts
    1 c. walnuts
    raisins
Preparation
    Cream together the sugar and butter; add next 4 ingredients. Fill the cake pan with a layer of cake dough; add a layer of raisins upon the cake batter, then strew over these a handful of nuts and so on until the pan is 2/3 full.
    Line the tins with well-buttered paper.
    Bake in a steady, but not quick, 325\u00b0 to 350\u00b0 oven.
    This is most excellent.
