Silver Cleaner - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 oz. fine salt
    1/2 oz. powdered alum
    1/2 oz. cream of tartar
    2 qt. water
Preparation
Mix together; put into a large white-ware pitcher and pour on two quarts of water; stir until dissolved.
Then transfer mixture to clean bottles and cork them tightly.
Before using it, shake bottles well.
Pour some of the liquid into a bowl and wash the silver all over with it, using an old, soft fine linen cloth.
Let stand about 10 minutes and then rub it dry with a buckskin.
It will make the silver look like new.
