Gingersnaps - cooking recipe

3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 tsp. orange rind or orange flavoring
2 c. flour
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs
3 Tbsp. maraschino cherry juice
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. well drained maraschino cherries, chopped
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. coconut
Preparation

Cream sugar and shortening.
Add eggs and beat well.
Add cherry juice and vanilla.
Stir together flour, salt and soda.
Add to creamed mixture.
Stir in coconut, nuts, dates and cherries. Drop by teaspoonfuls on a greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 300\u00b0 for 15 minutes.
Makes 6 to 7 dozen.
