Candied Yams - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 medium sweet potatoes
    1 1/2 c. white sugar
    1/2 stick butter or margarine
    dash of salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Peel and cube potatoes.
    Put in a 2-quart saucepan with 1/4 cup water and salt.
    Bring to a good boil; add sugar and butter. Cover and simmer until very tender, about 30 minutes or until it thickens or forms syrup.
    Add vanilla.
    Do not stir during cooking process.
