Old-Fashioned Date And Nut Bread - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. nut meats
1 beaten egg
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. shortening
2 Tbsp. vinegar
1 c. pitted dates, halved
Preparation

Sift the flour, salt and soda together and mix in broken nut meats.
Add to vinegar enough boiling water to make 1 1/2 cups. Add shortening.
Pour over dates and let stand 10 minutes. Combine egg and brown sugar.
Add to dry ingredients.
Add dates and water-vinegar mixture.
Mix well.
Pour into greased loaf pan. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
