Old Fashioned Stack Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. packed brown sugar
    1 c. shortening or margarine
    1 c. molasses
    1 c. buttermilk
    2 eggs, beaten
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. ginger
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/4 tsp. salt
    5 1/2 c. plain flour
    6 2/3 c. cooked, dried apples (apple butter or sweetened applesauce may be substituted)
Preparation
    Combine
    sugar,
    shortening
    and
    molasses.
    Beat until smooth.
    Add buttermilk, eggs, soda, ginger, vanilla and salt. Beat well.\tAdd
    flour,
    1 cup at a time.
    Blend well.
    Divide into 6 parts.
    Pat into greased cake pans with a floured hand. Bake layers
    at 350\u00b0 for 7 to 10 minutes or until light brown. When cool, spread 2/3 cup of apple mixture between layers.
