Connecticut Beef Supper - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. beef for stew
    2 large onions, sliced
    2 Tbsp. Crisco oil
    1 (4 1/2 oz.) jar whole mushrooms
    2 c. Cheddar cheese, grated
    4 medium potatoes, sliced
    1 can mushroom soup
    3/4 c. milk
    3/4 c. sour cream
    cracker crumbs
Preparation
    Season meat and brown in oil with onions.
    Drain mushrooms and add enough water to make 1 cup.
    Stir liquid into meat.
    Simmer until tender.
    Put meat mixture in 9 x 13-inch pan.
    Arrange potatoes on meat.
    Mix soup, milk and sour cream.
    Pour over potatoes.
    Sprinkle with cheese.
