Dipped Shortbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. flour
    1 c. butter, softened
    6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate pieces or butterscotch chips (optional)
    1 tsp. shortening
    1/2 c. sifted powdered sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. finely chopped nuts or rainbow sprinkles
Preparation
    In large bowl, combine flour, sugar, butter and vanilla; mix until thoroughly blended.
    Shape into 1-inch thick logs; cut into 1/2-inch slices.
    Roll between palms of hands or on board into 2-inch fingers.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 on ungreased sheet for 10 to 12 minutes; cool.
    Melt over hot (not boiling) water the chocolate pieces and shortening; remove from heat.
    Dip in cookies; roll in nuts or sprinkles.
    Place on waxed paper tray; chill until chocolate is firm (about 1 hour).
    Makes 4 dozen cookies.
