Fiesta Banana Nut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. baking soda
    3/4 tsp. salt
    1 1/3 c. sugar
    1/2 c. buttermilk
    2 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. ripe bananas, mashed
    2 eggs
    1/2 c. nuts, chopped
    1/2 c. softened shortening
    6 Tbsp. butter
    6 maraschino cherries
    3 c. sifted confectioners sugar
    2 Tbsp. cream
Preparation
    All dry ingredients are sifted together.
    Measure buttermilk, vanilla, bananas (mashed), eggs, nuts and shortening (softened). Mix with dry ingredients.
    Bake at 325\u00b0 for 25 minutes.
    Makes 2 layers.
