Hamburger Vegetable Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. lean ground beef
    1 onion, chopped
    6 to 7 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
    4 to 5 medium carrots, diced
    4 to 5 stalks celery with leaves, diced
    4 bay leaves
    2 Tbsp. dried parsley flakes
    1/2 c. rice
    2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
    water
Preparation
    Brown hamburger and onion in 8-quart stockpot.
    Fill pot to half full with water and add rest of ingredients.
    (I omit the 1/2 cup rice and use 1/2 cup wild rice and also 1/2 cup barley.)
    Add more water, as needed, to fill pot to 1-inch from top of pot. Simmer slowly for 2 hours.
    Add salt and pepper as desired.
