Friendship Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 bag assorted beans (5 to 7 variety beans)
    1 Tbsp. salt
    ham or ham hocks (can be omitted)
    1 large onion, chopped
    1 can tomatoes
    1 tsp. chili powder
    juice of 1 lemon
    freshly ground pepper to taste
Preparation
    Wash beans.
    Place in large kettle.
    Cover with 2 inches water; add salt.
    Soak overnight.
    Drain, rinse and add 2 quarts water and ham or ham hocks.
    Bring to a boil and simmer slowly 3 hours.
    (Or, wash beans and slowly drop into 2 quarts of boiling water so that the water does not stop boiling; reduce heat and simmer 3 hours.)
