Fr. Bob'S Pea Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. split peas
    1 ham bone with meat on it
    1 onion with several cloves placed in it
    1 rib celery, cut into 1-inch pieces
    2 cloves garlic, mashed
    8 c. canned chicken stock
    3 carrots, cut up
    pepper and some croutons
    1 bay leaf
Preparation
    Soak the peas overnight after rinsing.
    Put the peas in a large stockpot along with all the other ingredients and bring to a boil; cover and then simmer for 2 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
    Pour soup through a strainer and may be thinned with milk or water if necessary.
    Serve hot with croutons or saltines.
    Great in the winter months in Cleveland Heights!
