24 Hour Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce, broken into small pieces
    1/2 Spanish onion, finely chopped
    1/2 c. celery, finely chopped
    1/2 green pepper, finely chopped
    1 carrot, grated or shredded
    1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen peas (do not thaw)
    1 pt. mayonnaise, spread on layers (do not substitute)
    1 tsp. sugar, sprinkled over all
    4 oz. grated Cheddar cheese, sprinkled over all
    6 to 10 slices bacon, crisp, sprinkled over all (you can use as much bacon as you wish)
Preparation
    Layer in order in large bowl.
    Let stand in the layered form for 24 hours in refrigerator or until ready to serve.
    Mix right before serving. You can add a little salt if needed.
