Chicken And Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 whole chicken (3 to 4 lb.)
    1 small carrot
    1 stalk celery
    3 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    3 c. flour
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 c. milk
    1/2 stick butter
Preparation
    Wash chicken and place in a large pot with enough water to cover well.
    Add salt, pepper, carrot and celery.
    Bring to a boil; lower heat and cook at a gentle boil for about 45 minutes to an hour.
    Be sure to add more water if it gets low.
