Date Nut Roll - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    1 c. milk
    1 pkg. (7-1/2 oz.) pitted dates
    1 c. broken pecans
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 tsp. butter
Preparation
    Mix sugar, milk and dates in boiler. Cook, stirring constantly until it forms a firm ball in cold water. Take off heat and beat until it begins to thicken. Add nuts, butter and vanilla. Wring a cotton dish towel out in cold water and spread on table. When candy is as thick as can be stirred, pour lengthwise in middle of dish towel, roll it over and let stand in refrigerator until candy is cold. Unwrap and slice.
