Homemade Mincemeat(Slow Cooker) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 lb. beef shanks
    4 c. water
    1/2 lb. beef suet
    2 lb. tart apples- peeled and diced
    1 (15 oz.) pkg. of raisins
    1 (11 oz.) pkg. of currants
    1 1/2 c. apple cider
    1 Tbsp. lemon juice
    1 Tbsp. grated orange peel
    1/4 c. orange juice
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. each nutmeg and ground cloves
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. molasses
    1/2 c. packed brown sugar
Preparation
    Combine beef and water in the slow cooker.
    Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours.
    Save all the broth.
    Remove meat from the bones.
    Grind beef and suet together.
    Combine with 1/2 c. broth and remaining ingredients in slow cooker.
    Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours.
    Makes 3 quarts. 2-3 Tbsp. of brandy or bourbon may be added to each pie.
