Heart-Smart Cocoa Kisses - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 egg whites
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1/8 tsp. salt
2/3 c. sugar
3 Tbsp. cocoa
3/4 tsp. almond extract
1/3 c. finely chopped almonds
Preparation

Preheat oven to 200\u00b0.
Line 2 large cookie sheets with foil. In small bowl with mixer at high speed, beat egg whites, cream of tartar and salt until soft peaks form.
At high speed, gradually beat in sugar, 2 tablespoons at a time, beating well after each addition.
At low speed beat in cocoa and almond extract until blended.
Fold in almonds, reserving 1 tablespoon.
Drop mixture by slightly rounded tablespoonful onto cookie sheets.
Sprinkle tops with reserved almonds.
Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes or until set. Cool on cookie sheets on wire racks 10 minutes.
With metal spatula carefully loosen and remove kisses from foil.
Cool completely on wire racks.
Store in tightly covered container.
Makes about 2 dozen.
Each kiss:
about 35 calories, 1 g fat, 0 mg cholesterol and 27 mg sodium.
