Fancy Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/4 c. cornmeal
    3/4 tsp. salt
    1 1/4 tsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    2 eggs
    vegetable oil, heated
    3/4 c. flour
    6 tsp. baking powder
    1/3 tsp. garlic salt
    2 c. minced onion
    1 1/2 c. milk
Preparation
    Sift together the dry ingredients.
    Stir in onion.
    Separate eggs; beat yolks with milk.
    Stir egg mixture into dry ingredients.
    Beat the egg whites until smooth, not stiff.
    Add a light sprinkle of baking powder to the egg whites just before finished beating them.
    Fold egg whites into batter until just mixed.
    Make into very small balls.
    Drop into hot oil.
    Fry until golden brown.
    Drain on absorbent paper.
    Serve hot.
    Makes 4 to 6 servings.
