Ingredients

3 Tbsp. butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
2 c. sifted flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. brown sugar
2 c. thick sour cream (rich cream, let sour by adding 1 Tbsp. vinegar)
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar.
Add unbeaten egg and beat.
Add flour, baking powder and salt, alternating with milk and flavoring.
Pour into a fairly deep pan or casserole dish.
Over this, sprinkle brown sugar (free from lumps), then pour on cream. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 40 minutes.
The dough rises to the top and the cream and sugar make a delicious caramel sauce.
Cool slightly; serve warm upside down.
