Breakfast Casserole - cooking recipe

12 slices white bread
1/4 c. softened butter
1 lb. sausage
8 oz. Cheddar cheese
4 eggs
3 c. milk
Preparation

Trim crusts from bread, spread lightly with butter.
Arrange 6 slices bread, buttered side up, in greased rectangular 3-quart baking dish.
Brown sausage in skillet, stirring until crumbly. Drain.
Layer half the sausage and cheese over the bread.
Add remaining bread, sausage and cheese.
Beat eggs with milk in bowl. Pour over casserole, press until milk saturates all layers. Chill overnight.
