Molasses Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 3/4 tsp. soda
    1 c. thick buttermilk
    1 c. molasses
    2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. ginger
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/3 c. melted shortening, margarine or butter
    1 egg, slightly beaten
Preparation
    Dissolve soda in buttermilk; add to the molasses.
    Sift flour; measure and sift again with remaining dry ingredients.
    Blend slightly.
    Add melted shortening and beaten egg; beat well.
    Pour into greased 9 x 9-inch pan.
    I like to bake mine in a 9 x 9-inch iron skillet.
    Bake in oven 35 to 40 minutes at 350\u00b0.
