Yankee Pot Roast - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 1/2 to 4 lb. beef roast
    2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
    1 c. water
    1 bay leaf
    8 to 10 small onions
    8 small carrots, cut in half
    15 oz. tomato sauce
Preparation
    Sprinkle salt and pepper on meat.
    Brown on both sides in hot oil, use Dutch oven.
    Add 1/2 cup water and bay leaf.
    Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.
    Remove fat.
    Add vegetables and rest of water.
    Pour on tomato sauce.
    Simmer, covered.
