Velvet Fig Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. plain flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    3 tsp. baking powder
    3/4 c. shortening
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3 eggs
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 1/2 c. peeled figs
Preparation
    Combine the dry ingredients and sift 4 times.
    Cream the shortening well and add the well beaten eggs.
    Next, add the dry ingredients, alternating with the liquid.
    Last, blend in the figs.
    Bake at 300\u00b0 until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
